TOUR TO THE VALLE DE LAS ANIMAS AND THE CANYON OF THE VILLAGE “PALCA”

To the southeast of the city of La Paz, there are a series of geological formations that have been highly eroded by the effects of the wind and rain and that have resulted in curious and whimsical formations of craters, obelisks, petrified forests, and hundreds of pointed watchtowers and canyons that resemble glacier landscapes known as: the Valle de las Ánimas, Valley of the Moon, and the Canyon of the Village of Palca.

Experts indicate that the impressive formations presented by these 3 places are the result of the melting of the glaciers that covered the place during the final stage of the tertiary era of the earth, the cataclysms, hurricane winds, and storms that lashed at that time; these effects finished the carving of the wonders of nature – and, it is impossible to stop visiting each attraction in a 1-hour walk.

……..AM/PM – Personal pickup from your hotel/hostel in the center of La Paz via touristic transport to start the journey to the south of the city to visit the first geographical site: Valle de las Ánimas – a valley that has the resemblance of petrified souls in its rock formations, as well as the resemblance of different musical instruments. On our trip, we can see indescribable landscapes that have many valleys, rivers, and crop areas; arriving to the Valle de las Ánimas, we can see a set of rich sculptural forms which – by the passing of the years and via erosion – have become the product of successive transformations from the Earth’s crust. Valle de las Ánimas was declared a protected area in 1995 – afterwards, becoming dedicated as a natural landscape heritage to the city of La Paz.
Continuing the tour, we will also have an impressionable view of the snowy mountains of Mururata and Illimani – the guardians of the city of La Paz – and, then we will continue our tour to the Canyon of the Village of Palca where we will take a little walk and also have the opportunity to appreciate the geological forms caused by the erosion of the Earth via wind and rain which, over millenniums, have molded in its own manner this precious place. A walk through the canyon allows its visitors to enjoy tranquility and also personal contact with mother nature and everything that nature has to offer.
