Tour La Paz – Sajama National Park

SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK

Sajama National Park is located in the Southeast of the province of Oruro in the region of Curaguara de Carangas in plain sight of the occidental mountain range of the Andes; inside the park you can find the highest, most imposing snowy mountain in Bolivia which is situated at a whopping 6,542 meters above sea level: the snowy mountain of Sajama. This mountain shares some attractive highlands with the Parinacota and Pomerape volcanos, and all three volcanos are very close to each other.

Sajama National Park is protected by its wildlife and flowers and shares approximately 200,000 hectares of surface area. The economy of the villages that are part of this park – like Sajama and Caripe – is based on the breeding of Andean camelids such as the Alpaca and llamas, as well as the project of vicuña management – a tool used for economic, productive, and social development that consists in the commercial, sustainable exploitation of the fiber of the vicuña by the Aymaran cattle community of the highlands for the purpose of increased income.
