The Fort of Samaipata is found only 6 kilometers from Samaipata and its principal attraction is the biggest carved rock in the world; the rock is found in the loin of a hill made of sandstone. This site dates back to the 14th Century, and it is believed that the site was a cultural and religious center within the zone between the 14th and 16th Centuries.
Samaipata was apparently an important temple where the gods were called upon; this archaeological monument is composed of ceremonial enclosures and a hydraulic system that permits the metering of rain-water intensity which is necessary for agricultural chores. The Fort of Samaipata also permits the completion of astronomical functions in addition to having been a place where ceremonial rites were completed.
It is an extraordinary and mysterious place whose origins and meaning are still a subject of investigation…
